Shoes!

Happy (belated) Halloween everyone!

These are a pair of shoes I painted for my sister’s Captain America costume! They were a quick pair of shoes that we bought for super cheap, which I then modified and painted! The whole thing took about 6 hours or so I think!

New Year pt. II

Continuing with the New Years theme...

My Facebook was recently flooded with people posting a neat little money saving idea where you save a dollar amount based on what week of the year it is. This is week  1, so I would save $1 ... week 51 I would save $51 and so on. I had seen it before and thought I should give it a go, and when I saw the flood I figured it was a sign, haha.

This was the pretty (massive) mason jar I painted to go with it! It's the Martha Stewart multi surface satin paint on glass, and I added some sticky pearls for the flowers and dew drops! I didn't bother to seal it because it'll just be sitting on my desk.

I actually really love it! I can't wait to fill it with money! Hah!

New Year!

And with it comes a fresh start and all that jazz!

So to start off the year, I've been doing some crafting!

I bought these little flower pots for my herbs waaay back in the summer, but never had a second to actually sit down and paint them! Now I have! Unfortunately my herbs have died since then... haha. So um, New Years resolution is to not let my herbs die now that they have a pretty home!

Final version

AAAND here is the final!

After the fantastically spectacular fail with the original in marker, I attempted to use acrylics. It worked out MUCH better this time. Though there are definitely some things I would do differently next time.

The best part is that my friend loved it! So worth all the frustration!

Prototype

I can assure you all that I've been working like crazy the last month, despite not posting!! Unfortunately, everything I've done has been Christmas commissions, so I can't post anything yet! However, I exchanged gifts with one of my close friends, so I can show you what I made her!

This is the prototype version of what I gave her. He's about 2" tall or so. He's one of those custom vinyl figures! I'm kind of addicted to making them haha. This particular one makes me massively sad because, when I used my sealer on him, the ink ran (the photos are pre-sealing).. not terribly bad but still enough for me to not be okay with giving it as a gift. But I still love him, so I'm happy to have him on my desk!

I'll post the final version next!

I made a thing!

I was in the States last week and saw this bitchin’ Justice League bag that you colour yourself… and because I’m 5 years old I bought two and coloured one of them tonight. With my expensive Copics. OH YEAAAH.

I actually kinda love it. Gonna rock the crap out of it at work. Bahahaha!

Galaxy Shoes II!

Three pairs of shoes later.. I finally have a pair for myself! I really love these and can't WAIT to wear them!!

And! Since I am a HUGE dork, I am making some custom pink glow-in-the-dark laces to go with them.
Yeah. That's happening.

The final versions!

Here we go with the finals!

The client was very happy with them!! Which makes me so happy to hear! The whole process was a little challenging at times, but overall I had a wonderful time. I can't wait to do myself a pair!

Iron Man shoes...

So I thought I'd do a little write-up on the process before posting the final shoes (Some photos will be repeated from the previous post)!

The shoes I used for this project were actually provided by the client (which makes my life so much easier, I must say!) But they were an almost.. khaki colour. After taping the bottoms (painter's tape), I started off with a priming coat:

I then went to the back of the shoes. I cut out a stencil of the logo (I went cheap and easy- I just used a card stock file folder I had laying around):

The stencil with the final version.

Next I tackled either side! I used my own arc reactor template from before (which has been surprisingly useful for something I did for a cake project!)

The next part, the front, was the trickiest part of the whole piece. I had to figure out a way to make the image work so that the major focal points (Iron Man himself and the repulsor) were centred properly! And, as longtime followers of my art will note, I NEVER draw robots of any kind, so I had to make sure I was getting this perfect! It's the first thing you look at, after all!

The base drawing (Sorry about the shadow, haha)

After I finished, all that was left was to do a sealer coat to protect the shoes! I'm currently using Americana Acrylic Sealer/Finisher. It's a glossy coat which, if I had the chance to do over, I would not use. I'm going to look into getting a matte finish for it. That's just me nit-picking though. It works quite nicely with the galaxy shoes, however!

Will post the final versions next!

Practice!

I was commissioned by a friend to do a pair of shoes for her. Now in the past I've painted pants, t-shirts, TVs and boxes .. but never shoes. So, in an attempt to get some practice before the real thing, (I had a pair of shoes I had bought to paint anyway) I did some galaxy shoes!

I am VERY VERY pleased with how they turned out!! PLUS! They were STUPIDLY fun to do! What more can I ask for on a Sunday afternoon? I'm just heartbroken that these shoes don't fit me. But I think I have a volunteer to give them a good home, so that's good!
