Art Demo!

So I was hired, thanks to Gary Chapple, to do an art demo at a budding artist's birthday party today!

I stressed all week about making a nice lesson plan so that the kids would have fun, drew up some random sketches and a little how-to page.. the whole she-bang. Within 20 minutes my lesson plan was out the window! Lol But in a good way!

I did lots of little things for the kids, portraits, characters, random things... I even drew Justin Bieber, which was definitely a new experience for me! But the girl I drew it for was very happy and said she'd hang it up on her wall.. so that makes me happy!!

So yes! It all went very well and the girls seemed to have a great time! It was awesome to see such an enthusiastic group of young budding artists (There was actually a Doctor Who fan in the group too!)!

One of the pages I gave to the kids. Wanted random things they could reference from different things that the birthday girl and I both liked. Most of them are just 30 second sketches. No more than a minute each. Wanted to keep the pace going!

A little practice goes a LONG way....

... which is something I'm going to need to do, haha.

THIS was my first attempt at using my new Copic markers. I only have a few, so my colour choices were limited (hence the pink dress). It didn't go well. But that's okay. I learned a lot about blending the colours and can't WAIT to try something new (on better paper too. I was just messing around on regular old printer paper)

This is an oooold drawing. Like, a whole YEAR old (*gasp*). So I really debated on whether or not to colour/post it. I take comfort in the fact that I can see where I’ve improved. That said, I still liked the picture itself… and since Sailor Moon is one of my favourites, and has had a massive impact on my art life, I couldn’t leave it anymore!


I went with manga colour hair (I have a slight fetish for white and pink hair) but the is more true to the anime. Oh well.

Fighting off a nasty bugger of a cold, but quickly drew this before I passed out last night:

Yeeah... with the Sailor Moon manga being re-released, I've been getting a little obsessed again. Don't judge me! This is my childhood coming back to me! I really need to design the SM tattoo I want to get one day! (And the Wonder Woman one... and the butterflies... etc etc... hahaha)

What? More than one?

Oh yes, it's true!

I know it seems like I haven't been doing much lately, but in actual fact.. the first chapter of my script is done and I've started roughing out pages! Not only that, but I've been roughing out pages for a children's book as well! So, I've actually been doing a fair bit... I just, unfortunately, can't show anything yet! Ugh!! Haha.

Just a couple pose sketches I was playing with... and decided to drop!

I recently got a drafting table as a(n extremely early) christmas present! I just love the darn thing. It is SO nice to have a little space where I can work on my own!
